Collection Valuation
Estimated collection value based exclusively on BrickLink sales and listing data, with available prices matched to item condition and prioritized by region.

How values are estimated
Find the closest market evidence. Calculate a unit estimate. Count each owned item once.
- 1Match the itemBrickLink identity + new/used condition
- 2Choose one sourceFirst usable tier in the order below
- 3Calculate the averageFilter outliers only when supported
- 4Add its contributionQuantity, without counting figures twice
Follow the pricing path
Start with the item's owned condition. Move to the next numbered tier only when the current one has no data.
United States
- Sales from the last 6 months
- Current listings for sale
North America
- Sales from the last 6 months
- Current listings for sale
Worldwide
- Sales from the last 6 months
- Current listings for sale
See it in practice
Illustrative amounts, not live collection prices. Expand an example for the reasoning.
US sales are available$80 US sales $80 unit estimate2 owned × $80 = $160 in total
US sales from the last six months average $80; US listings average $100. Sales are the first usable tier, so the listing price is not used.
No US sales$90 US listings $90 unit estimateLocal listings come before wider-region sales
US sales are empty. Matching-condition US listings average $90, while North American sales average $75. We use $90 because US listings are tier 2 and North American sales are tier 3. If US listings were empty too, we would check North American sales next.
Only new-condition listings exist$25 new US listings $25 fallback estimateOwned condition: used · Pricing condition: new
No used sales or listings exist in any of the three regions. We use the $25 average from new-condition US listings and label the fallback. It is a substitute estimate, not evidence that a used copy would sell for the same price.
Complete set + an extra loose figure$100 complete set + $15 loose figureCollection contribution: $115
The set contains two figures, each worth $15 on its own. Their $30 standalone value is displayed but already included in the set's $100. An extra loose copy adds $15. If the set could not be priced, all three priced figure copies would contribute $45; the remaining set value would stay unknown. Uncertain allocations require review.
How the average is calculated
Enough reliable observations → check for outliers.
Otherwise, retain BrickLink's average.
Exact filtering rules
We require at least 10 positive, finite price observations, a detail count matching BrickLink's observation count, and an unweighted average agreeing with BrickLink's within $0.0001. With a nonzero interquartile range (IQR), we remove prices below Q1 − 1.5 × IQR or above Q3 + 1.5 × IQR. The IQR describes the spread of the middle half of prices.
Retained observations have equal weight; their average is rounded to four decimal places. Sparse, incomplete, inconsistent, or zero-IQR samples retain BrickLink's average. Each item's price tooltip shows the method and any removed prices. Filtering makes no extra API calls.
What enters the total
- Included: priced sets and other items, loose figures, and figures allocated to unpriced sets.
- Display only: figures already covered by a priced complete set.
- Unknown: missing prices and uncertain allocations. They are excluded, never treated as known zero values.
For each contributing item: unit estimate × included quantity.
What the rating means
Seven heuristic evidence levels, not a probability of accuracy or a sale-price guarantee. The weakest of sample size, verified price spread, source and condition determines the rating. Sample caps: 1 or unknown = Very limited; 2-4 = Limited; 5-9 = Some support; 10-19 = Good; 20-49 = Strong; 50+ = Very strong. Spread caps: up to 15% = Very strong, 25% = Strong, 35% = Good, 50% = Moderate, 75% = Some support, above 75% = Limited. Listings and unknown spread cap at Moderate; condition proxies or unknown matches cap at Limited; unknown source gives Very limited. Assessed from data at retrieval; prices and tiers are unchanged.
What the estimate means
Sales are completed transactions; listings are asking prices. New-condition fallbacks are proxies. These USD estimates are not guaranteed sale proceeds. We do not add shipping, taxes, or tariffs or deduct selling fees.
When prices change
- Fresh valuation: fetches current data.
- Open a saved report: uses saved observations.
- Update selected items: can mix retrieval dates.
Hover over or focus a price-basis tag for that item's source, condition, sample size, calculation, and retrieval date.
Review queue
Items are sorted by their saved contribution within each group. Missing values have unknown impact, not zero. An item may appear in more than one group.
Copy a command and run it in your terminal from the script directory. The report itself makes no pricing API calls. Refreshing selected items creates a mix of retrieval dates.
Catalog status
Local catalogs help match items to BrickLink. They do not supply valuation prices.
Refresh a catalog
- Open BrickLink catalog downloads (sign-in may be required).
- Choose Catalog Items, XML, and Include Year for Sets, Books, or Gear.
- Replace the corresponding
Sets.xml,Books.xml, orGear.xmlinscripts/catalog/, then regenerate the report.
Changes since the previous run
No previous saved report was found. Your next run can be compared with this one.
Price effect uses the previous quantity. Quantity effect uses the current unit price and quantities included in the collection total. Display-only figures are excluded from comparisons. Added and removed items count as quantity changes. A different price basis can affect the estimate without reflecting market movement.
